Volunteering with Elephants in South Africa
On this project, you can help to conduct research and provide care to these gentle giants, who have been given a second chance in life. They say that an elephant never forgets, and this project ensures that these rescued elephants have a chance to thrive, in a sanctuary where they can roam as close to the wild as possible.
Volunteers on the main volunteer program can join for 3 – 12 weeks, but we also offer a 1 to 2 week elephant volunteer experience for those with less time to spare. Over 40’s dates are also available a few times a year! Click below to find out more.
“Wow this was such an incredible experience with the elephant research team! It was so amazing to get up close & learn about these animals & their conservation. It has been one of the best things I’ve ever done, thanks to the Oyster team for their support throughout. Communication was great & always very responsive.’ – Sam, November 2024

Volunteering with Turtles in Costa Rica
This magical project gives volunteers the chance to head off the beaten track and onto a pristine, remote stretch of Costa Rican coastline – to help conserve adult and baby turtles! If you love the sea but aren’t so keen on diving, this is the trip for you. You can patrol the beach at night time to spot nesting mother turtles, and help to release hundreds of babies out to sea. Trips start at just a week and go upwards from there. This is a truly special project which would suit a volunteers if any age, to read more just click below.
“We released 98 hatchlings when I got here on Tuesday afternoon! A sublime, mesmerising experience watching a turtle digging a nest then catching the eggs as she laid them, in my hand(!) before transferring them to a safer spot. Releasing hatchlings at dusk on the first and last evenings was also just magical.” – Tim, November 2024
